Proposed Bylaw Change - 2023
The Staff Assembly Executive Board is seeking approval for the change to the organization’s bylaws, effective 2023-2024 academic year. The proposed change would provide stipends to the Vice President and President upon successful completion of their terms.
In keeping with Article XI of our bylaws we are presenting this proposed amendment to the membership for discussion and approval by the membership. This proposal is being posted on March 30, 2023 and will be published on the Staff Assembly website for no less than thirty days. After 30 days, a meeting will be held and a vote will be taken. A two-thirds majority of those choosing to vote, is required for approval.
A Zoom meeting to vote on the proposed amendment will be held no sooner that May 4, 2023, with the date and time to be announced. We will announce the results of the vote during our Spring General Meeting on May 31.

Here is the proposed new bylaw:
Section XVIII: STIPENDS
A. The President and Vice President will be eligible to receive a one-time stipend at the conclusion of their 12-month term, to be paid in the June of their service year.
1. The President who has served for the full 12 months shall receive a total of $2,000.
2. The Vice President who has served for the full 12 months shall receive $1,000.
B. A President or Vice President who serves less than 12 months but completes the term of office in June shall be eligible for a pro-rated portion of the aforementioned amounts, based on the months served divided by 12.
1. A President or Vice President who leaves their position prior to the completion of their term, but left office in good standing and is still an employee at UC Riverside, may be eligible for a pro-rated portion of the aforementioned amounts, based on the months served divided by 12. A simple majority vote of the Executive Board is necessary to approve this action.
2. A President or Vice President who leaves office not in good standing or who leaves employment of UC Riverside, shall forfeit their stipend.
C. The Executive Board may vote, with a simple majority, to withhold the stipend of the president or vice president for failure to complete their term or dereliction of their responsibilities.
