CUCSA Award Programs

About CUCSA's Awards Programs

The Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) sponsors a pair of annual awards that recognize individuals who are supportive and inclusive of staff and encourage equity and diversity. These are the Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Staff Award and the Outstanding Senior Leadership Award.

For information about nominating someone for either award, contact the UCRSA president or vice president. Nominations are due in January/February and voted on at CUCSA's Spring meeting.

Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Staff Award

The Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Staff Award is designed to recognize staff members with the University of California, who are supportive and inclusive of staff, and encourage equity, diversity, and community, are forward thinking, and do not compromise quality.

Eligibility: Staff members who hold positions designated as non-represented by a collective bargaining unit and non-faculty. Must be full-time, career staff.

The categories that are taken into consideration for the Outstanding Staff Award are:

  • Support of Staff - Examples include: volunteering for staff events, organizing staff, providing for staff needs that are otherwise unmet by your campus.
  • Communication with Staff - Examples could include:  town halls, brown bag lunches, emails to the campus, etc.
  • Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Community - Examples include:  participating in specific events or forums to support equity, diversity, and campus community building programs
  • Support of Local Staff Assembly - Examples could include:  volunteering with Staff Assembly, leadership roles in staff organizations.
  • Support of System wide initiatives that affect staff - Examples include: System wide committee service, Multi campus initiatives
  • Other - Other activities you feel are pertinent to this award. Examples are volunteerism in the local community.

The Outstanding Senior Leadership Award

The Outstanding Senior Leadership Award recognizes senior-level leaders who are supportive and inclusive of UC staff, and encourage equity, diversity, and community.

Eligibility: Leaders who hold positions designated as senior management group (SMG). If you are unsure if your nominated leader is designated as SMG, you can verify with your location's SMG coordinator.

To nominate someone for consideration, please contact the UCRSA president or vice president.

The categories that are taken into consideration for the Outstanding Senior Leadership Award

  • Support of Staff - Examples include: recognition programs, attendance at staff events such as picnics, etc.
  • Inclusion of Staff - Examples include: staff participation on chancellor’s advisory committees, search committees for executive position, etc.
  • Communication with Staff - Examples could include:  town halls, brown bag lunches, emails to the campus, etc.
  • Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Community - Examples include:  specific events or forums to support equity, diversity, and campus community building programs
  • Support of Local Staff Assembly - Examples could include:  meetings with Staff Assembly leadership, sponsoring staff-friendly events, etc.
  • Support of CUCSA - Examples include:  attendance at CUCSA events, inclusion of CUCSA delegates in activities, etc.
  • Other - Other activities you feel are pertinent to this award.
